An unmistakable forest dweller
With its striking warning colours, the fire salamander (Salamandra salamandra) usually moves under cover of darkness and spends much of its life out of sight. It is one of the characteristic amphibians of Brittany’s forests. Its life cycle connects two distinct habitats. And every individual bears a distinctive pattern that makes recognition possible.
